A news story is a factual and prose story for print or broadcast media about a person, place, or event that answers the five questions: who, what, when, where, why, and how. The story is written in an inverted hierarchical style, with the most important information listed first and additional details later.
The style of writing the news is concise, using short sentences and paragraphs without unnecessary adjectives and descriptive language. The information is based on facts from reliable sources, not the opinion of the author. Especially with newspapers, the reader should be able to grasp key facts from the first or second paragraph if space is limited and the story is cut short at the bottom. A story worth publishing is judged by these criteria: is it new? Is this unusual? Is it fun or important? Is it about people?
